Completing the 55 day-night campaign “The 500 kV Pleiku – My Phuoc – Cau Bong Transmission line”

The implementation and rehabilitation including combination of 500kV transmission line as scheduled is of significant importance to ensure the power supply in the South of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular in the dry season of 2014

During 55 days and nights of implementation, in spite of alternate power cut-off of 500kV Tan Dinh – Phu Lam transmission line, especially power cut-off twice of both 500kV Dak Nong – Phu Lam and Tan Dinh – Phu Lam, EVN ensured sufficient and safe power supply for the South without reducing the capability of power supply.

For 55 days and nights of the campaign, implementing units completed a large volume of work in rainy weather condition and impact of storms No. 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Nevertheless, EVN molded foundation of 1,725.8 m3 concrete; transported and installed properly 18 steel tower foundations of 724.19 tons; manufactured and installed 117.37 tons of steel foundation; wired the double circuit 500kV transmission line with  the four-conductor bundle with the total length of 7.5km,  dismantled 17 tower foundations with line of  500kV Tan Dinh – Phu Lam transmission line.

The implementation and rehabilitation including combination of above mentioned 500kV transmission line as scheduled is of significant importance to ensure the power supply to the South in general and Ho Chi Minh city in particular in the dry season of 2014, at the same time to facilitate the implementation of Pleiku – My Phuoc – Cau Bong 500kV (circuit 3) to be completed in April 2014.

To complete the project as scheduled and meet technical requirements, National Power Transmission Corporation (NPT), National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC) and Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB) cooperated closely and effectively with Power Construction Installation Company Limited 2 (PCC4), Power Transmission Company 4 (PTC4), Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2), Southern Power Corporation (SPC), and Ho Chi Minh Power Corporation (HCMPC). Especially, the support and approval of the authorities and local people in the right-of-way should be regarded.

At 9:46 p.m. on November 24th, EVN powered on and put into operation safely two 500kV transmission lines of Dak Nong – Phu Lam and Tan Dinh – Phu Lam, combined 2 lines into one on one electric tower in the area of Cu Chi district to facilitate for implementing transmission line (Circuit 3) and completing the fifty five day-night campaign.

PECC2 is taking on technical design and drawing, in which proposed rehabilitation plan of the current 500kV Tan Dinh – Phu Lam transmission line which runs through Cu Chi district into double-circuit by combining  two 500kV transmission lines of Tan Dinh – Phu Lam and Dak Nong – Phu Lam to create corridor  for 500kV Pleiku – My Phuoc – Cau Bong. In the situation of power shortage in the South and requisite of transmitting power from the North to the South, in order to have maximum limitation of operating the power plants by diesel with high expense, PECC2 cooperated with Project Management Board (PMB) and contractors to plan the power cut-off time to have suitable implementation. Along with direction and approval of EVN, NPT, and CPMB in agreement of implementation, the approach has been highly valued. During the implementation, PECC2 participated in supervision stage and gave timely and effectively settlement to complete 55 day-night campaign as scheduled.
