Power Generation Corporations (GENCO) in form of holding companies – affiliates under Vietnam Electricity (EVN) were established according to Decisions No.3023/QD-BCT, No.3024/QD-BCT and No.3025/QD-BCT on 01/6/2012 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on organizing and restructuring Single Member Limited Companies, Dependent Accounting Power Generation Companies, Power Source Project Management Boards (PMBs) and receipt of State ownership right at some Power Generation Companies under EVN operating in accordance with the Enterprise Law.

Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVN GENCO 1) was formed on the basis of organizing and restructuring Uong Bi Thermal Power Single Member Limited Company and fourteen (14) affiliates including nine (09) Dependent Accounting Companies (Dai Ninh, Ban Ve, Song Tranh, Dong Nai Hydropower Companies and Hydropower PMBs 2, 3, 6, Thermal Power PMBs 2, 3); one (01) subsidiary company with parent company’s charter capital ownership of over 50% at the time of establishment (Da Nhim – Ham Thuan– Da Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Companies); 4 joint-venture companies with parent company’s charter capital ownership of less than 50% at the time of establishment (Quang Ninh Thermal Power Company, Vietnam Power Development Company, International EVN Joint Stock Company, Central Hydropower Joint Stock Company). Seven (07) power source projects are under management of EVN GENCO 1.

Power Generation Corporation 2 (EVN GENCO 2) is established on the basis of organizing and restructuring of Can Tho Thermal Power Single Member Limited Company and twelve (12) member companies including five (05) Dependent Accounting Companies (Quang Tri, An Khe KaNak Hydropower Companies, Hydropower PMB 7, Song Bung 2, Song Bung 4 Hydropower PMBs); two (02) subsidiary companies with parent company’s charter capital ownership of 100% at the time of establishment (Thu Duc Thermal Power Single Member Limited Company, Trung Son Hydropower Single Member Limited Company); five (05) subsidiary companies with parent company’s charter capital ownership of over 50% at the time of establishment (Thac Mo, Hai Phong, Pha Lai, Song Ba Ha, A Vuong). Eight (08) power source projects are under management of EVN GENCO 2.

Power Generation Corporation 3 (EVN GENCO 3) is established on the basis of organizing and restructuring of Phu My Thermal Power Single Member Limited Company and eleven (11) affiliates, including four (04) Dependent Accounting Companies (Buon Kuop Hydropower Company, Hydropower PMB 1, Thermal Power PMB 1 and Vinh Tan Thermal Power PMB); two (02) subsidiary companies with parent company’s charter capital ownership of over 50% at the time of establishment (Ba Ria and Ninh Binh Thermal Power Joint Stock Companies); five (05) Joint-venture companies with parent company’s charter capital ownership of less than 50% at the time of the establishment (Thac Ba, Vinh Son - Song Hinh Hydropower Companies, Se San 3 Power Investment and Development Company, Petro Vietnam Nhon Trach 2 Power Joint Stock Company, Viet Lao Power Joint Stock Company). Eight (08) power source projects are under management of EVN GENCO 3.

According to the decisions, GENCO 1, 2, 3 are the single member limited ones with 100% charter capital owned by EVN and operate in form of holding company – affiliates, directly under EVN.

Business lines of EVN GENCO are production and trade of electricity, power mechanics, capital investment and management of power source projects, preparation of investment construction and project management consulting, inspection of construction and installation work items...

In addition, those companies are also allowable to participate in related industries such as import and export of fuel, power materials and equipment etc
