The Prime Minister of Vietnam has assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to direct Vietnam Electricity to prepare, evaluate and develop a submarine power cable link from Ha Tien to the

island of Phu Quoc in KienGiangProvince.

Thủ tướng chính phủ Việt Nam đã chỉ đạo Bộ Công Thương, Tập đoàn Điện lực Việt Nam nghiên cứu và thực hiện dự án cáp ngầm xuyên biển từ Hà Tiên đến đảo Phú Quốc tỉnh Kiên Giang.

Power Company 2 (PC2) is thus planning on behalf of the Owner, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), to carry out the project for the installation of a submarine power cable system. Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2) is a main consultant of the project, and we, Fugro are proud to be part of this all important project in lending our expertise and services.

Phu QuocIsland is recognized as an area very rich in cross boundary marine resources. Total species richness and generic diversity makes Phu Quoc necessary for marine conservation. Consequently the cable route needs to be designed with due consideration, taking into account the unique local environment.

Phú Quốc được xem là khu vực rất giàu tài nguyên biển. Sự đa dạng và phong phú các loài sinh vật biển của Phú Quốc cần được bảo tồn. Do đó tuyến cáp ngầm xuyên biển cần được thiết kế với sự xem xét đặc biệt về mặt bảo vệ môi trường.

The government has set a target of attracting 350,000 visitors a year to PhuQuocIsland from 2007 until 2010 and between 2 and 3 million after 2020 when it is slated to have finished its tourism infrastructure development master plan. The goal is to turn Phu Quoc into a world-class ecotourism centre destination by the year 2020 while conserving its valuable environmental resources. It is important that the cable landing operations minimise disruption to potential tourist sites and that cable terminal infrastructure is harmonised with the local environment.

Chính phủ Việt Nam dự kiến thu hút khoảng 350.000 du khách/ 1 năm trong thời gian từ 2007 đến 2010 và lên đến 2 đến 3 triệu du khách/1 năm kề từ sau năm 2020 khi mà Phú Quốc đã hoàn thành qui hoạch phát triển hạ tầng du lịch của đảo. Mục tiêu là biến Phú Quốc thành trung tâm kinh tế - du lịch tâm cở thế giới vào năm 2020 đồng thời bảo tồn được các nguồn tài nguyên môi trường có giá trị của đảo. Các hoạt động tiếp bờ của tuyến cáp ngầm phải bảo đảm hạn chế tối đa sự ảnh hưởng đến các điểm du lịch và hạ tầng cơ sở của điểm tiếp bờ phải hài hòa với cảnh quan môi trường.
