The Ground Breaking Ceremony of Vinh Tan 4 Extension Thermal Power Plant

Launching order to start construction of Vinh Tan 4 Extension Thermal Power Plant

Vinh Tan 4 Extension Thermal Power Plant Project belonging to Vinh Tan Thermal Power Center (Vinh Tan commune - Tuy Phong district - Binh Thuan province), invested by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and EVNGENCO3 is the owner’s representative, has the total capital of USD 1.1 billion and capacity of 600MW.

The project in the format of EPC contract (Engineering – Procurement – Construction) will be implemented by Consortium of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHI, Korea), Mitsubishi Corporation (MC, Japan), Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (EVNPECC2, Vietnam) and Pacific Corporation (PAC, Vietnam).

The project takes advantage of the existing infrastructure of the Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant including construction ground, port connecting with the national grid, roads… and especially the common facilities between Vinh Tan 4 and Vinh Tan 4 Extension Power Plant which is under construction. The plant has one unit including one chimney, one turbine and one generator and uses the super critical steam parameters and imported firing coal. This technology is applied popularly in the World due to high capacity and efficiency and suitable cost. It also ensures environmental requirements according to the National standards.

Addressing at the ceremony, Vice president of Vietnam Electricity – Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh said: Vinh Tan 4 Extension Power Plant is the urgent source project approved by the government basing on the Text No. 289/Ttg – KTN dated February 27th, 2015 with the requirement of putting in to operation in the 2nd quarter in 2019.

Once completion, the plant is annually expected to supply 3.6 billion kWh to the electricity grid, serve socio-economic development in the central southern region and southern provinces and cities, contributing to easing the power shortage in the dry season, reducing power losses in transmission from the north to the south and enhancing the safety, stability and economy in the process of power system operation.

On the occasion, Vietnam Electricity /EVN GENCO3 provided VND 5.2 billion to build eight new classrooms for Sao Mai kindergarten in Tuy Phong district and contractors donated VND 2.0 billion to charity funds of Tuy Phong district and Vinh Tan commune.
